Understanding Instagram Analytics

While understanding how your approach to Instagram marketing is working (or not!) to help you achieve your goals, there is lots to understand. 

As the 10th Day of Christmas from my Marketing Coach includes tips of getting the most from analytics, I thought it would be smart to share a few definitions. 

​You'll see these terms in a few different places including paid Instagram/Facebook advertising and Instagram Insights. Understanding what they mean for your efforts at connecting with your audience has a big influence on your strategy.

So here are a few helpful definitions to help you get clear:

  • Impressions: The number of times your posts have been seen during a specific time frame.
  • Interactions: The number of actions taken on your account.
  • Reach: The number of unique to you accounts that have seen any of your posts.
  • Profile Visits: The total number of profile views over the week.
  • Website Clicks: The number of times visitors have clicked the link to your website from your profile page.
  • Call/email clicks: the number of times visitors have clicked the call/email button from your profile page.
  • Mentions: the number of times your account’s handle has been mentioned by other users.​

​On Instagram these stats will be relevant in one week increments. When you see these terms in other places like on Facebook they may be referring to a different date range so always check.

For understanding your Stories analytics, you will need to understand a few other terms. 
  • Forwards: The number of taps to see the next photo or video in your story.
  • Back: The number of taps to see the previous photo or video in your story.
  • Exited: The number of taps to leave your story.
  • Replies: The number of replies to this photo or video in your story.
  • Next Story: The number of taps to the next account's story.
  • Link Clicks: the number of times that a link on your photo or video was clicked.
