I’m pretty confident you’re saying, “If we’re talking about Instagram marketing, what does a Mission Statement have to do with anything”?
Stay with me.
If we are going to use Instagram as a clear and cohesive marketing tool for your business, you need some serious clarity about your brand.
I want to start at the beginning.
A Mission Statement is a very short summary that reflects your business goals, philosophies, values and target markets. It should include what your competitive advantage is – what’s unique about your organization, what makes you stand out from everyone else out there.
Sounds like a pain to take the time to write one of these. Especially when all you wanted was to start killing it on Instagram.
Here’s the thing. If you don’t start here, you won’t be clear. If you aren’t clear, your content won’t reflect your brand, your values, your offer and your unique selling proposition. Essentially a unique selling proposition or USP is simply what makes your brand different than others. What makes you stand out in the crowd. If you want a more detailed explanation of this common marketing term, check out this post by Kissmetrics.
Without that, you’ll have a hard time getting followers and worse yet, people to engage. Because they won’t be clear on what you do, who you do it for and why they should do business with you.
Start at the beginning now and you won’t have to start over later. Or worse, quit. Instagram is a powerful marketing tool when used properly. Let’s be smart about getting set up.
Write a Mission Statement so you can write a clear profile.
Here are 4 simple steps to get this done. This information will inform the killer profile you’re about to create, so take 15 minutes and do this.
· What do we do?
· How do we do it?
· Whom do we do it for?
· What value are we bringing?
Keep this simple. The truth is, we all have a value that is uniquely ours because we are all different. If you can’t answer this yourself, ask your best friend or a good colleague or your mom, if you must, for some feedback about what makes your approach to your industry and what you do, unique. And don’t minimize the answer. What makes you different, makes you valuable.
